CHINESE LANGUAGE COURSE OVERVIEW

1. Elementary Chinese I & II (ECHIN 111 & 112)

Designed for beginners, this course introduces Chinese phonetics, characters, grammar, and sentence structures. Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while gaining cultural knowledge. Elementary II expands on everyday conversations, such as telling time and making phone calls.

2. Pre-Intermediate Chinese I (ICHIN 211 & 212)

Focuses on removing phonetic assistance and enhancing reading skills. Students learn common business expressions and improve conversation, grammar, and writing through practical exercises. (Prerequisite: ECHIN 111 & ECHIN 112)

3. Intermediate Chinese I & II (ICHIN 212 & 213)

Develops reading, writing, and conversational fluency, introducing more complex characters and grammar. Students engage in formal and informal discussions, improving their ability to express ideas clearly. (Prerequisite: ICHIN 211 & 212)

4. Intermediate Business Chinese I & II
(CHIN 321 & 322)

Teaches Mandarin for business communication, covering topics like company visits, meetings, negotiations, marketing, and customer service. Emphasizes oral expression, business writing, and trade-related discussions through simulated exercises and real-world case studies.
(Prerequisite: ICHIN 212 & 213)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Enrollment & Placement

  • Beginners can enroll directly in Listening & Speaking or Comprehensive Beginner Level 1.1 + 1.2 without a placement test.
  • Learners with prior Chinese knowledge must take a free remote placement test before enrollment.

Business Chinese Test (BCT)

Students must complete the BCT within the deadline after the course. A non-refundable test fee applies. For more details, speak to your class teacher or programme leader.

Certification

A Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who:

  • Complete all graded assignments, presentations, and exams
  • Maintain at least 75% attendance
  • Score 70% or higher in exams and assignments

Course Fees (TBD)

New trainees: A non-refundable registration fee applies.

Returning trainees: Registration fee waived if enrolling within a year of their last course.
Course materials are included at no extra cost.
